LGBTQ Black/African American CommunitiesBased on 2005-2007 figures from the American Community Survey, 1.5 million Black/African American adults in the U.S. are gay, lesbian or bisexual. (There are no existing figures or estimates about the number of transgender and gender non-conforming Black/African Americans in the U.S.) These diverse LGBTQ Black/African American populations span a range of ethnicities and nationalities, and deal with a range of issues. In response, many LGBTQ Black/African American organizations and programs have formed around the country. A series of related readings include:
